~Foreigner assists in rescue at Mobor; group of 05 find themselves stranded on an island in Palolem; 01 missing child reunited with parents while 01 medical intervention conducted ~
Panaji:Drishti’s lifesaving force which mans the coast rescued 19 individuals in the last two days across north and south Goa. These included several multiple rescues. The weekend also had the lifeguard team conduct a search and rescue operation involving a missing child who was reunited with his parents at Calangute beach.
Earlier today Mobor beach saw a triple rescue involving 03 girls, two aged 14 and one aged 19, all hailing from Lucknow, UP. While in the waters, the girls got caught up in a rip current and were being dragged into the sea. Drishti Lifesaver Gauresh Velip noticed the trio and circulated a rescue message over the radio while he rushed to secure the victims. A foreigner swimming at the same spot rushed in to assist Velip. With the assistance of the foreigner, all three girls were secured onto a rescue board and brought ashore safely. After obtaining credentials, the girls were handed over to their relieved parents.
Lifesavers in Calangute conducted two single rescues involving males from Hyderabad and Belgaum. This morning Calangute witnessed a crowd of 30 to 40 people in the waters. The male from Hyderabad, aged 16, lost his footing and panicked. He got caught in a rip and started drifting when lifesavers Yashwant Gaonkar and Haresh Kadre spotted him, dashed to his rescue and brought him ashore. In a similar incident Lifesaver Siddesh Bhosle, Leslie Fernandes and Ashwin Ghag teamed up to rescue a male from Belgaum, aged 37 from a rip current at Calangute.
The weekend had the lifesaving force conduct 15 rescues across the coast.
There was a multiple rescues at Palolem involving 04 males and one female from Delhi, all aged between 25-30 yrs. A group of 10 people from Delhi were at Palolem beach. 05 among them went across to the island during the low tide. While returning back the tide had changed. With the high tide setting in they were unable to make it across and were stuck over the island. At around 2010 hrs the group’s friends approached the lifesaver tower and asked for assistance as their friends were unable to make it across to the mainland from the island. Drishti lifesavers Suraj Mehta, Vishant Girap and Parshuram Pagi assisted by the Beach Safety Patrol (BSP) officers Raju Velip and Rahul Velip went across to the island and brought all 05 individuals to the mainland using the jetskis and rescue boards. One male who had got a cut on his leg was rendered first aid by a lifesaver.
There were double rescues at Sinquerim, Baga and Ashvem and Dudhsagar waterfalls on Sunday, while there were single rescues at Keri and Agonda.
The lifesaving team at Agonda assisted in a medical intervention when a lady dislocated her knee while in the sea. Hailing from Kerala, the lady was rendered first aid by the lifesaving team and was shifted to the hospital for further treatment in a 108 ambulance.
Meanwhile a 05 year old boy was found wandering along on the beach. On enquiring, the lifesaving team learnt he was long and unable to find his parents. After several announcements were made by the team patrolling the area, the parents were located at a beach shack 300 metres away from where the boy was spotted and he was reunited with the parents.
