PANAJI: The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee has launched a statewide campaign against what it described as the BJP-led government’s attempts to “sell off” Goa’s land and hand it over to outsiders.
The campaign, titled ‘Goy Vikpak Divche Na, BJP’k Jikpak Divche Na’ (Won’t Let Goa Be Sold, Won’t Let BJP Win), was launched on August 17 under the leadership of AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge.
Senior Congress leaders, led by GPCC President Girish Chodankar, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao, South Goa MP Viriato Fernandes and other senior office-bearers, addressed a press conference in Panaji, outlining the party’s position on land-related issues and its plans to take the campaign across the State.
Congress alleged that attempts to transfer Goa’s land to outsiders, including through provisions such as Section 39A of the TCP Act, have become a major concern for the people of the State. The party said there is growing public anger over what it termed the erosion of Goa’s land, identity and way of life.
As part of the campaign, Congress has launched a missed-call helpline — 8080963939 — allowing people across Goa to register their protest against the alleged sale of State land.
Following the press conference, senior Congress leaders also joined the ongoing Karapur-Sarvan agitation against the House of Abhinandan Lodha mega project, which, according to the party, has continued for more than 150 days.
Congress said its workers and supporters will undertake a door-to-door campaign across Goa in the coming weeks to inform citizens about the issue and mobilise public support against what it called the BJP government’s “disastrous land policies.”
