MOLLEM: An collision involving three vehicles at the Biodiversity Park at Suktollem, Mollem, resulted in the deaths of a truck and bus driver and the serious injuries of two others.
The deceased has been identified by the Collem Police as Khwaja Mohiddin Maniyar (48), a Hubballi native and Ramnagar, Karnataka, bus driver Bhima Naik. The Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) in Bambolim is treating a female passenger who suffered serious injuries in the collision.
According to the police, the truck driver was killed when the bus, which was traveling from Goa to Benguluru, collided with the incoming vehicle while it was speeding.
Firefighters and villagers worked together to rescue the bus driver and the female passenger who was sitting in the front seat after they were trapped inside the vehicle.
The crash caused significant damage to both the truck and the bus.
A six-person Porvorim family was driving home in an SUV when the bus struck their car and then crashed into a roadside tree. They were just slightly hurt. Sushil Morajkar, the Ponda Station Fire Officer (SFO), and his crew raced to the scene and saved the lives of the injured.
