CALANGUTE: A 24-year-old person was arrested by the Calangute Police for unlawfully possessing 950 grams of ganja, valued at around Rs 95,000, as part of a significant crackdown on drug trafficking.
On Wednesday, the operation was carried out close to the HP gas godown in Naikwaddo, Calangute. The defendant, Sachin Rathod, is originally from Bijapur, Karnataka, and currently resides in Gaura Waddo, Calangute.
A police squad led by PSI Yogesh Mandrekar and assisted by staff members Raj Parab, Ravindra Gaonkar, Siddhant Lamgaonkar, Rohan Naik, and Rama Gaonkar carried out the operation in response to reliable intelligence of a narcotics delivery.
The group took the drug from Rathod’s possession during the raid.
The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act of 1985 was then used to register the offense.
SDPO Porvorim Vishwesh Karpe and SP North Akshat Kaushal (IPS) are overseeing the inquiry, which is being carried out under the direction of PI Paresh Naik of the Calangute Police Station.
To find any connections to broader networks or accomplices, more investigations are being conducted.
