TALEIGAO: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today inaugurated the first discipline “Badminton” and kicked-off the first match of the 37th Nationa Games Goa at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium along with Sports Minister Govind Gaude.
The National Games to be held in Goa from Oct 25 to Nov 9 will be formally inaugurated by PM Modi on Oct 26.
“Goans were eagerly waiting for the National Games for last 10 years and today it gives me immense pleasure to inaugurate the first games. I am sure all Goans will come and watch the games at all venues across the state,” said Sawant.
He further said that people should play more sports rather than investing time in mobile games.
“The stadiums are buzzing with anticipation, athletes are geared to showcase their best. Get ready for a spectacular event that promises thrilling sportsmanship & unforgettable moments.” he added.
The CM further informed that these games are based on the theme of ‘One Nation, One Spirit’.
He further said they will be celebrating the sports culture in Culture from today to November 9.
“National Games are starting today…Goa is ready to welcome the athletes. 43 sporting disciplines will be held in these games,” CM Sawant added.
Athletes from India’s several States and Union Territories compete for medals at the National Games, a multi-sport event with Olympic-style roots. The current National Games feature over 7,000 competitors competing in over 30 sports, including non-Olympic ones.
The 37th National Games will mark the debut of several new sports disciplines on the medal stage, including beach football, roll ball, golf, sepaktakraw, sqay martial arts, kalleripattu, and pencak silat.
The team championships will continue till October 21 followed by individual events to be held till October 24. Team championship final will be held on Oct 21 and individual final will be held on Oct 24.
