PANAJI: Around 480 kg of food products were destroyed by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) during intensified food safety inspections across Goa after officials detected multiple violations of mandatory labelling and licensing requirements.
The inspections, conducted at the Margao KTC Bus Stand and food manufacturing units in Quepem, uncovered food products that allegedly lacked essential details such as FSSAI licence information, manufacturing dates and use-by dates.
At Margao, officials found 23 kg of pickles and other products worth ₹8,000 and 30 kg of snacks valued at ₹9,000 without the required labelling and licence details. A 200 kg consignment of ice worth ₹12,000 from Pune was also detained after officials found a misleading declaration relating to a Goa FSSAI licence.
In Quepem, 150 kg of kalakand worth ₹45,000 and 27 kg of mawa valued at ₹11,880 were found without proper labelling and licence details. The products were also found to contain added colour.
Overall, around 480 kg of food products were destroyed in the interest of public health.
The FDA also collected 15 sweet samples in Dharbandora for laboratory analysis.
Officials said surveillance and enforcement activities will continue across Goa, with strict action against violations of food safety, licensing and labelling standards.
