PANAJI: Public Works Department (PWD) has informed that the free tap water scheme announced by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant will benefit 1.5 lakh households i.e 52 percent.
PWD also said that households will also be provided with an option of fixing their own water meter and checked & verified by the Department so that the meter rent charges are also waived off.
“During the Independence Day speech by Chief Minister, Goa made an announcement to the people of Goa, that w.e.f 1″ September 2021, 16 cu.m water per month will be made available to the households free of cost which will be benefited to around 1.5 lakhs households in the State of Goa (i.e 52% of the total households),” said PWD
PWD also states that this decision of the Government is a big relief to the BPL families and at the same time judicious use of water concept will be achieved.
“The households will also be provided with an option of fixing their own water meter and checked & verified by the Department so that the meter rent charges are also waived off,” it said
Further, Households consuming water above 16 cu.m will continue to pay the water tariff charges as applicable.
Meanwhile, PWD said that a detailed proposal will be prepared by Public Works Department for its implementation from 1″ September 2021 onwards
