PANAJI: State Immunization Officer Dr Rajendra Borkar today informed that 56% of the COVID deaths in Goa have been among fully unvaccinated.
“It is shocking to know that of the total 3956 total deaths, 56 per cent were fully unvaccinated. DHS is receiving a very poor response for the precautionary dose program,” said Dr Borkar.
He further said that the third COVID wave is still not over and people here asking and questioning whether there will be a fourth wave.
“The cases are still not zero. I must say we are receiving a lukewarm response to the precautionary vaccination,” he added.
Dr Borkar said that Corbevax is a Precaution dose in the eligible adult population, and those who have taken Covaxin and Covishield can also opt for this as a Precaution(third) dose.
Corbevax is to be administered as a booster six months after two doses of Covaxin or Covishield for all adults. Necessary changes to the Co-WIN portal are expected to be made within a week’s time.
The approval comes after recommendations made in recent weeks by the National Technical Advisory Group (NTAGI) that had reviewed data submitted by Biological E (BE). The Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) okayed Corbevax as a heterologous booster on June 3.
