MARGAO: The South Goa District Hospital has reported a notable rise in dengue infections, with the number of positive cases increasing considerably over the last few months.
Hospital figures show that July witnessed the highest numbers during the period, with 79 patients admitted for dengue-related treatment and 91 testing positive.
The hospital had recorded 29 admissions and 38 positive cases in June, while May saw eight admissions and nine positive cases.
So far in August, 27 patients have been admitted with suspected or confirmed dengue, while 71 have tested positive. The figures for August are only up to August 10 and are therefore not indicative of the final monthly count.
Dr Rajendra Borkar said the increase in cases should not be taken lightly and urged residents to remain cautious.
He advised people who develop fever that persists for three to four days to undergo dengue testing without delay.
With cases continuing to rise, residents have been advised to take preventive measures and seek medical attention promptly if dengue-related symptoms appear.
