PANAJI: To mark the 76th anniversary of WHO, the organisation has designated ‘My Health, My Right’ as the theme for the World Health Day (WHD) 2024 which focuses on the fundamental human right: access to quality health care, education and information.
As we commemorate the World Health Day on 7th April’24, Vedanta Sesa Goa’s Project ‘Aarogya’ stands out for already espousing & furthering the objectives envisioned in the WHD theme for 2024. Through targeted interventions as part of Project ‘Aarogya’, Vedanta Sesa Goa has been instrumental in addressing the healthcare needs of the local communities in & around its area of operations, marking a significant stride towards providing equitable access to healthcare.
Speaking on WHD 2024, Navin Jaju, CEO, Sesa Goa, said “Healthcare should be accessible to all and I am glad that through our Project Aarogya, we have been able to reach out to thousands of people who need it. Through this, we aim to create a positive impact, especially in areas where access to medical services may be Limited. We remain committed to bringing meaningful change to the communities we serve and prioritize their health and well-being.”
Vedanta Sesa Goa’s dedication to building healthy communities is embodied in its Project ‘Aarogya’. The project has come a long way since it started, benefitting more than 450000 people thus far. Three major interventions are leveraged in a holistic strategy to address fundamental medical requirements.
Mobile Health Units (Mobile)/Community Medical Centre
Vedanta Sesa Goa has played a key role in bridging the healthcare gap by establishing and running MHUs in Goa, Karnataka & Orissa as well as two Community Medical Centres (CMCs) in Goa. Where necessary, dispensary services of Vedanta have been extended to periphery villages. Alongside conducting holistic medical examinations and promoting health awareness, these units also offer vital healthcare services and over 20,000 free consultations were made in FY’24 alone, demonstrating the project’s influence in enhancing access to healthcare.
Medical Health Camps
Vedanta Sesa Goa also organizes regular medical health camps, providing communities with specialized health diagnostics. Several health conditions, such as anaemia, vision problems, heart problems, pulmonary problems, dental problems, orthopaedic problems, geriatric problems, and gynaecological disorders are addressed in these camps. The program has witnessed over 1000 consultations with 18 special camps held in FY’24, greatly advancing the goal of a healthier community. These camps have covered schools, women & senior citizens.
Health and WASH Support
Beyond enabling access to medical care, Vedanta Sesa Goa also supports WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene) and other aspects of health and hygiene. The organization leads in addressing key health challenges by means of strategic collaborations and activities. As part of the “Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan,” 60 beneficiaries in Goa and Maharashtra have received support. Additionally, over 20 awareness workshops were held in several states to support WASH, breastfeeding, and menstruation health. In addition, the company has also constructed sanitation blocks, with modern amenities, in schools, especially those catering to girl students and promoting health, hygiene & well-being in a meaningful manner.
Vedanta Sesa Goa’s dedication to community health lends itself to the vision of a healthier future & universal access to healthcare. Project ‘Aarogya’ is a true demonstration of the transformative power of corporate social responsibility in improving the lives of both individuals and communities & has, over the years, holistically embraced the concept of ‘My Health, My Right’ through its initiatives. Vedanta Sesa Goa’s proactive stance in promoting healthcare as a basic right rather than a luxury as we traverse the complexity of global health issues, serves as a source of inspiration to many.
