New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party has re-elected Arvind Kejriwal as its national convenor, retaining him in the top organisational post he has held since the party was founded in 2012.
Pankaj Gupta has been elected as the national secretary, while ND Gupta will continue as the party’s national treasurer. The leadership changes were announced along with the formation of a new 23 member National Executive.
The new National Executive includes Arvind Kejriwal, Atishi, Bhagwant Mann, Manish Sisodia, Sanjay Singh, Satyendar Jain, Gopal Rai, Anurag Dhanda, Dilip Pandey, Durgesh Pathak, Gopal Italia, Rani Agarwal, Harpal Singh Cheema, Adil Ahmad Khan, Mohammad Irshad, Preeti Sharma Menon, Prithvi Reddy, Rakhi Birla, Vibhav, Shelly Oberoi and Rajbir.
Five special invitees have also been appointed to the National Executive. They are Ajay Dutt, Chaitar Vasava, Imran Hussain, Mehraj Malik and Venzy Viegas.
The party said Kejriwal and other senior leaders discussed AAP’s future political strategy with members during the meeting. The re-election comes as the party seeks to strengthen its organisation and expand its political presence beyond its traditional strongholds.
AAP national media in charge Anurag Dhanda congratulated Kejriwal following his unanimous re-election and said the party was prepared for the challenges ahead under his leadership.
AAP was formally launched in Delhi on November 26, 2012, emerging from the anti-corruption movement that had demanded a strong Lokpal law. The Election Commission recognised the party in 2013.
Kejriwal, a former Indian Revenue Service officer, became the face of the movement’s transition into electoral politics. AAP made its electoral debut in the 2013 Delhi Assembly elections, where Kejriwal defeated then Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit from the New Delhi constituency.
The party subsequently formed governments in Delhi and expanded its political footprint to Punjab. Kejriwal served as Delhi Chief Minister on three occasions between 2013 and 2024.
