ZUARI: Zuari Indian Oil Adani Ventures Limited (ZIAVL) eventually located the fuel leak from the main fuel pipeline, two weeks after wells at Matvem-Dabolim were discovered to be contaminated with fuel.
To the relief of both locals and company officials, the ZIAVL contractors digging around the fuel pipeline have finally located the leakage spot along the pipeline near the Vales Junction along the main highway at Dabolim.
ZIAVL CEO Shriprasad Nayak stated that the Mormugao Dy Collector, Mamlatdar, and other department officials had already reached the location and that they had informed the state administration team about this development.
“This was a serious problem, and the company had been putting a lot of effort into figuring out where the fuel leak in the pipeline was coming from for days. In addition to deploying an agency to support us in our operations, we had started excavating the area surrounding the pipeline. Nayak added, “We had also called in a Punjabi sniffer dog team to assist us in locating any likely locations.
In order to survey the areas, we also enlisted the assistance of the PWD, and on the basis of their leads, we began to excavate and inspect any potential leakage areas.
Now that the pipeline has this tiny leak, we will fix it and get the line back in working order. Nayak expressed gratitude to all departments for providing the necessary assistance in locating the leak.
The CEO of ZIAVL acknowledged that it took several days for them to locate the leak.
“We also invited a Malaysian organization to assist us in locating the leak and inspecting the pipelines. With all of their advanced equipment, the Malaysian team is already en route, and we will enlist their assistance in conducting tests throughout the pipeline and performing any necessary repairs. We’re going to retest the pipelines and get back in touch with the South Goa Collector,” Nayak declared.
Nayak stated that the 22-year-old pipeline has undergone recurring inspections.
“We already had an inspection scheduled for December end from a German agency prior to this problem. The German agency will now arrive, carry out its work, and provide us with thorough reports on its findings. We will then share these reports with management, who will ultimately determine whether to replace or repair the pipelines.
“Only after the Malaysian team has surveyed the entire pipeline can we provide an update regarding when we can begin construction.” Additionally, the district collector’s approval is required before the pipeline can be restarted.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that notice has been issued to the company and action will be taken.
“I have instructed to company to conduct survey and replace the entire pipeline,” he added.
