PANAJI: The BJP and the Congress seems to be involved in “After You” game as even 48 hours of announcement of elections there has been no declaration for South Goa from BJP side while Congress is yet to decide on both.
BJP State President Sadanand Tanavade today said that BJP’s South Goa candidate for Lok Sabha Polls will be declared either today or tomorrow.
However, Tanavade has stated that deliberations are still ongoing regarding whether the candidate for South Goa will be a female or a male.
“BJP’s South Goa candidate for Lok Sabha Polls will be declared either today or tomorrow. Be it male or female, BJP will win both seats,’ said Tanavade while addressing a press conference in Panaji’
Tanavade said that the Central Election Committee is currently holding two-day meetings in Delhi to select the BJP candidate for the South Goa constituency.
Tanavade did, however, clarify that no choice has been made regarding the candidate’s gender, leaving both options available for consideration in this constituency.
Sources emphasized that due to the insistence of senior Central BJP leaders on fielding a woman candidate for this seat, names of potential female candidates are under review. Accordingly, several names were forwarded to the Central Committee for consideration.
On the other hand, Goa Congress seems confused on canddiate declaration for both the parliamentary constiteuncies.
In the North the Congress has reportedly shortlisted former ministre Ramakant Khalap and Vijay Bhike while in South the choice is between sitting MP Francisco Sardinha, Capt Viriato Fernandes and AICC leader Girish Chodankar.
Spekaing to Goemkarponn, Chodankar said that the Congress will decide on the candidates at the right time.
“The party knows when it has to take decision and is in final discussion before announcement,” said Chodankar.
He said the delay will not have any effect on party’s prospects as people have already decided to send communal forces home.
“Irrespective of the delay, the people will send the communal forces home,” he said.
