CANACONA: In a surprising turn of events in Agonda panchayat, Deputy Sarpanch Canisha Fernandes, once a key member of the ruling group of panchayat members, has been removed from her position in a unanimous No Confidence Motion (NCM). \
The motion was initiated by five of the seven panch members, including Agonda sarpanch Preetal Fernandes, and was presided over by Canaocna BDO Extension Officer Pradeep Gaude. Sarpanch Preetal Fernandes and panch members Karuna Kishore Phaldesai, John Fernandes, and Ramnath Velip were present during the passing of the resolution, while ex-Sarpanch Fatima Rodrigues, Nilesh Pagi, and Canisha Fernandes did not attend the meeting.
This decision followed discussions at the panchayat office regarding the motion of no confidence against Canisha Fernandes. Notably, this is the first time the seven-member Agonda Panchayat elected Preetal Fernandes as Sarpanch, who has been in the position for the past year after her predecessor, Fatima Rodrigues, surprisingly resigned. The post of Agonda Dy-Sarpanch is reserved for women.
The dynamics among the ruling panch members shifted over time, with Sarpanch Preetal Fernandes, John Fernandes, Ramnath Velip, Nilesh Pagi, and Karuna K Phaldessai forming a new ruling group, while ex-Sarpanch Fatima Rodrigues and Canisha Fernandes found themselves in the opposition.
Allegedly, Mudkud panch Karuna Kishore Phaldesai is poised to be elected as the new Dy. Sarpanch for the woman-reserved position in the Agonda panchayat.
