PANAJI: Goa is set to expand its AI-based traffic surveillance network, with Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho announcing that 29 more AI cameras will be installed across the State and the system is expected to cover the entire Goa by next year.
Godinho said the expansion is aimed at strengthening traffic monitoring and improving compliance with road safety and transport regulations. The AI-enabled system will allow authorities to monitor violations more effectively across different parts of the State.
The minister also warned that vehicles found without proper registration or with number plates removed will be seized. He said motorists attempting to evade traffic enforcement would face action from the authorities.
Godinho said the existing AI camera system is still in the trial phase but has already contributed to greater compliance among motorists. He noted that traffic violations have come down to a few hundred.
He said the increased monitoring has also encouraged motorists to obtain valid Pollution Under Control certificates and third-party insurance.
Godinho stressed that the government’s objective is not to impose fines but to ensure that motorists follow traffic rules. He appealed to vehicle owners to keep their registration, insurance, PUC and other mandatory documents in order as AI-based enforcement expands across Goa.
