ALDONA: A woman and her minor child were injured on Thursday after a boulder came crashing down from a hill-cutting site at Moira.
Aldona MLA Carlos Alvares Ferreira visited the site to take stock of the situation.
The mother and her son were travelling on bike along the road when the incident occurred.
Excavation work is being carried out at the site, following which a local Oswald Cordeiro filed a complaint with the TCP department.
Ferreira said that as per a report by the TCP department, the complaint filed by Cordeiro has been withdrawn.
“After I received the information about the incident, I quickly came out of the assembly and rushed to the site. Two people are injured. The deputy collector has told me that the TCP department has informed him that there was no flying squad that visited the site. However work is being carried out haphazardly. The hill has been cut, at a steep incline. This is completely wrong,” he said.
Ferreira said that in July 2022, the Moira panchayat had granted construction licence for the project. “But you require 17A permission to cut slope. This gradient is too steep. TCP should initiate action in this matter. I have directed the deputy town planner to conduct an inquiry. This is complete negligence on the part of the department,” he said.
Stating that people’s safety is of importance, he said that the hill-cutting site is located along the Moira main road.” So many vehicles are passing by. We can’t wait for Banastarim type of accident to act. We need immediate action,” he said.
Sarpanch Sagar Naik said that the TCP department should take all views into consideration before granting permission.
Freeda D’Sa, ward member said that she was unaware of the hill-cutting work.
