PONDA: Unauthorised U-turn at Safa Masjid Junction poses a risk to commuters’ and passengers’ lives.
It’s a year now, the NH has closed the KTC bus stand Junction for crossing local traffic, and also U-turn was prohibited, making the Ponda –Panaji Highway proceed straight forward without any obstruction\: however, regularly, there is an open violation of traffic rules witnessed at KTC Bus stand Junction by taking U-turn, which poses a risk to lives of commuters and passengers.
The signboards are meant for the safety of commuters and vehicles, but here no traffic personnel is seen controlling or issuing fines for traffic violations. Thus, despite the ban/ U-turn prohibitory signboard installed, the Passenger buses and other traffic openly violate traffic rules, take a dangerous U-turn on NH, and proceed towards the KTC Bus stand, Chirputem road.
It may be recalled after the widening of Curti Ponda-Khandepar highway into a four-lane, the KTC Junction where locals buses used to cross towards the KTC bus stand was closed and instead, the road was made straight for NH traffic proceeding on this route.
The buses crossing the junction to proceed towards the KTC bus stand were directed to go-ahead for another one km, and taking roundabout GVM Circle, they were expected to reach the KTC bus stand.
But it appears the passenger buses are not ready to follow the rules, and to avoid an extra 1 km distance, the buses wrongfully take a U-turn at Old Junction, where no U-turn board is displayed.
Thus one day, there are chances of accidents at the KTC junction as passengers’ buses suddenly take a U-turn on NH road, which is meant for straight traffic.
