PANAJI: Anaya Shukla, Vanlalrhuitpuii, Claire George and Shaurya Dessai booked their places in the Girls U11 semifinals on the opening day of the Priority Gaspar Dias Open All Goa Major Ranking Table Tennis Tournament at Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias, Miramar, on Tuesday.
Anaya produced a dominant performance in the quarterfinals, defeating Tasha Mascarenhas 3-0. Vanlalrhuitpuii also secured a straight games victory, overcoming Swara Gude 3-0 to move into the last four.
Claire George had to work harder for her place in the semifinals, defeating Tvisha Kotkar 3-1. Shaurya Dessai completed the U11 semifinal lineup after a 3-1 victory over Sanaz Shaikh.
The Girls U9 competition also witnessed some closely contested quarterfinal matches. Hanishka Chonkar defeated Lauryn Gomes Barreto 3-1, while Ronisha Sakhardande advanced with a convincing 3-0 win over Lara De Souza. Spruha Kamat edged past Swara Gude in a thrilling five game encounter, winning 3-2. Claire George secured her place in the U9 semifinals with a bye.
The tournament is being conducted under the aegis of the Goa Table Tennis Association and brings together promising young paddlers from across Goa. Players are competing for valuable Major Ranking points, adding significance to every match.
The event was formally inaugurated by Sindhura Nachinolkar of Group Priority, along with Tanmay Kholkar of Manas Developers, Edwin Menezes, Joint Secretary of Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias, Vinesh Pikle, Club Treasurer, and Sairaj Dhond, Sports Cell Chairman, among others.
With several young players already producing strong performances, the tournament promises further competitive action as the knockout rounds continue.
