Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Monday strongly condemned an attack on three Border Security Force (BSF) personnel by a group of alleged smugglers in the Ashabari area of Boxanagar and directed authorities to take strict action against those responsible.
The incident took place on Monday morning, triggering tension in the locality. The attackers allegedly assaulted the BSF personnel and attempted to snatch their firearms. A government vehicle was also vandalised during the confrontation.
Reacting to the incident, Saha described the assault as unacceptable and stressed that violence against security personnel must be dealt with firmly under the law.
In a statement shared on social media, the Chief Minister expressed concern over the attack and said security forces deserved the highest level of respect and protection.
He directed the concerned authorities to act swiftly, identify those involved and ensure that the accused were brought to justice.
According to details of the incident, the alleged smugglers scattered in different directions during the pursuit. However, BSF personnel managed to apprehend one suspected smuggler, identified as Hefzur Rahman, approximately 400 metres from the location of the attack.
The assault has raised concerns over the safety of security personnel deployed along sensitive areas of the state, particularly while carrying out operations against smuggling activities.
Saha reiterated that attacks on personnel responsible for protecting the country’s borders would not be tolerated and called for stringent legal action against those involved.
The state authorities are expected to pursue the matter to ensure accountability and prevent similar incidents in the future.
