PANAJI: Goa captain Aryan Narvekar led a resilient batting effort with an unbeaten 76 as Goa finished the opening day at 227 for four in 87 overs against Baroda in their Colonel C.K. Nayudu Trophy Elite Under 23 four day match at the BCA Stadium B Ground on Monday.
After winning the toss and choosing to bat, Goa suffered an early setback, losing three wickets for just 59 runs. Narvekar then took responsibility for rebuilding the innings, displaying patience and discipline against the Baroda bowling attack.
The Goa skipper faced 207 deliveries and struck 10 boundaries and two sixes in a determined knock. He showed good judgment in leaving difficult deliveries while capitalising on scoring opportunities to guide his side out of trouble.
Dishank Misquin played a crucial supporting role, scoring 45 off 168 balls with four fours and two sixes. The pair stitched together a valuable 112 run partnership for the fifth wicket, helping Goa regain control after a difficult start.
Wicketkeeper Chittem Jeevankumar remained unbeaten on 45 at the close of play. He struck seven fours and provided strong support to Narvekar, with their unbroken partnership giving Goa a promising platform for the second day.
Baroda’s Henil Patel was the most successful bowler, claiming three wickets for 43 runs, while Harshit Maurya picked up one wicket for 29 runs.
Goa will aim to build on their recovery when play resumes on Tuesday. With Narvekar and Jeevankumar still at the crease, the visitors have an opportunity to strengthen their position and push towards a competitive first innings total.
