New Delhi: Gujarat Titans (GT) head coach Ashish Nehra has been fined 25% of his match fees by the BCCI for violating the IPL Code of Conduct during his team’s rain-hit three-wicket win over Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium. Along with the fine, Nehra has also been handed one demerit point for his actions during the match.
According to an official IPL statement, Nehra admitted to a Level 1 offence under Article 2.20, which pertains to “conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game.” The statement also clarified that the Match Referee’s decision in such cases is final and binding.
While the IPL did not specify the exact nature of Nehra’s conduct, the former India pacer was seen visibly agitated during the match, which featured multiple rain interruptions. He was also spotted engaging in animated conversations with on-field umpires during crucial phases of the game.
The tension rose particularly during Gujarat’s chase of a revised 156-run target. Rain interrupted play several times, leading to uncertainty and strategic challenges. Notably, another delay after the 14th over with GT at 107/2 shifted the momentum, as the team began to lose quick wickets after play resumed.
Eventually, the target was revised to 147 in 19 overs under the DLS method. Gujarat managed to scrape through with a win on the final ball, handing MI their first defeat in six matches and boosting GT’s position at the top of the IPL 2025 points table.
