VASCO: Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar points out the old drainage system and the need for additional cross drains in the town to avoid Floodlike situations by next year.
In Goa, there has been a declaration of Red Alert due to the heavy rainfall. Several talukas from North and South Goa are badly affected by the rainwater, landslides and Floodlike situations. But the government authorities seem to be in no mood to learn from their past flaws and continue to stay cool on this issue.
One such example is Vasco. The people of Vasco are blaming the local governing bodies for their failure to undertake timely and thoroughly pre-monsoon works. But the Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar has a different reason to offer on the Floodlike situations from Port town.
Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar speaking to the media said that the Pre Monsoon works have been nicely done by the Mormugao municipality and there would not have been such Floodlike situations if the rainfall was normal.
He had said that due to the very heavy rainfall in Vasco which was unexpected, some parts of the city have waterlogged which usually gets normal after 15 minutes. Salkar added that there are certain areas where cross drains are required which will facilitate the excess rainwater. When I was a Councillor that time proposal for some cross drains had been passed and after the rain, the work of cross drains will be done and by next year there won’t be water logging of this sort” he assured.
