TALEIGAO: The Babush Monserrate panel made a clean sweep in the Taleigao Village Panchayat by winning all 11 wards. The elections were held on April 28 with a voter turnout of 69 per cent.
“I would like to thank the people of the Taleigao constituency. It is their hard work and the trust of the people,” Monserrate said after the final results were declared at the counting centre – Bal Bhavan on Monday.
He further said that this time Taleigao will get a fresh face for the post of sarpanch.
The winners of Monserrate panel included Siddhi Kerkar (ward 1), Agnelo Da Cunha (ward 2), Helena Pereira (ward 3), Ratika Gawas (ward 4), Ushant Kankonkar (ward 5), Estella D’Souza (ward 6), Janu Rosario (ward 7), Maria Fernandes (ward 8), Sanjana Diukar (ward 9), Sagar Bandekar (ward 10), and Sydney Barreto (ward 11).
11,988 eligible voters cast ballots at the 17 designated polling places, demonstrating the active participation of the Taleigao community in the political process.
Voters clearly and resolutely expressed their preferences in the contested wards, even though candidates in Wards 1, 6, 10, and 11 were able to win their seats without opposition. Interestingly, Ward 7 had the highest voter turnout percentage (80.16%), demonstrating a strong sense of civic duty and active participation in the election process.
Cecille claimed that the elections were not free and fair, citing the fact that Agnelo Da Cunha, a candidate from Ward II, had his name and election symbol on display at the table where voter slips were distributed.
“On election day, this is not acceptable. The election code of conduct is broken,” she declared. She also expressed concern about the tents that Monserrate’s group had set up being too close to the polling place.
“The Opposition panel objected to our tent being too close to the polling station,” Monserrate responded. I told them they could file a complaint if they had any problems.”
In the 2019 elections, Monserrate Monserrate-supported panel had won all 11 wards, with Agnelo Da Cunha being declared elected unopposed.
