New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has expressed strong confidence in the future of teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, with Secretary Devajit Saikia stating that the board will do everything possible to help the young star reach the highest level of international cricket.
Speaking after the conclusion of IPL 2026, Saikia praised the 15-year-old Rajasthan Royals batter for his outstanding performances throughout the tournament. While stopping short of making any immediate announcement regarding an India debut, the BCCI official made it clear that the board views Sooryavanshi as one of the brightest talents in Indian cricket.
“Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is a wonderful player coming up, and he has a bright future. BCCI will do everything to get him to the highest level of cricket,” Saikia said.
The Bihar-born batter enjoyed a sensational IPL campaign, finishing as the tournament’s leading run-scorer with 776 runs at a remarkable strike rate of 237.30. His exploits earned him the Orange Cap, making him the youngest player in IPL history to achieve the feat at just 15 years and 65 days old.
Sooryavanshi surpassed the previous record held by Sai Sudharsan, who won the Orange Cap at the age of 23 years and 231 days in 2025. The earlier benchmark had been set by Shubman Gill in 2023.
Saikia also congratulated Royal Challengers Bengaluru on securing their second consecutive IPL title after defeating Gujarat Titans in the final. He described the season as a memorable one for Indian cricket and highlighted the emergence of young talents as a positive sign for the sport’s future.
The BCCI secretary’s comments have further fueled expectations that Sooryavanshi could soon be considered for higher levels of representative cricket if his impressive form continues in the coming seasons.
