ANMOD’:Traffic along the Belagavi–Goa Highway was severely disrupted after a section of the road on the Goa side of Anmod Ghat caved in late Friday night, following heavy and persistent rainfall.
The damaged portion lies about 10 km from Mollem, near the Dudhsagar temple—a stretch where cracks had been noticed earlier in the day. Authorities, anticipating trouble, had installed barricades and restricted traffic to a single lane while pouring concrete into the cracks in an attempt to stabilise the weakened section. However, the ongoing rains thwarted efforts to build a new retaining wall in time, leading to the eventual collapse.
Currently, traffic is being allowed to pass in a single lane under strict monitoring. SP Traffic, Goa, confirmed in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that police personnel are deployed on-site to regulate movement. Motorists have been urged to drive with caution in the area.
Repair work has already begun following an inspection by officials on Saturday. Authorities said restoring safe, two-way traffic is their immediate priority, even as the incident has underscored concerns over the vulnerability of ghat roads during the monsoon.g
