BENAULIM: A woman from Benaulim has allegedly been cheated of ₹1,68,798 in an online task scam after unknown accused persons lured her with promises of monetary rewards and higher profits through product-related tasks.
According to the complaint filed by Sanjana Meher, the fraud took place between July 31, 2026, and September 22, 2026, at TNK, Benaulim.
The complainant stated that an unknown accused person contacted her through WhatsApp and induced her to join a Telegram group to complete product-related tasks in exchange for monetary rewards. Initially, she received payments for completing the assigned tasks, which allegedly helped the accused gain her trust.
Subsequently, the accused allegedly persuaded her to make multiple payments on the pretext of completing further tasks and recovering the amounts previously invested, while promising higher returns and profits.
Believing these representations, the complainant transferred a total of ₹1,68,798 to different bank accounts. However, the promised returns were allegedly not realised, and she was cheated of the said amount through electronic communication and online platforms.
Further investigation is being conducted by PSI Anil Krishna of Colva Police Station.
