Panaji: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has dismissed allegations that the proposed PM Unity Mall project would damage Toyyar Lake, calling the claims “deliberate propaganda” meant to mislead the public.
In a statement issued by the party, the BJP said that some groups are falsely claiming that the PM Unity Mall is being built next to Toyyar Lake and that the project will lead to pollution of the wetland.
“Don’t fall for propaganda. Some are deliberately misleading people by claiming that PM Unity Mall is being built next to Toyyar Lake and will pollute it,” the BJP said.
Clarifying the location of the project, the party said the proposed PM Unity Mall site is located at a safe distance from the lake.
“Fact: The project site is around 500 metres away from the lake and does not touch the wetland in any way,” the BJP stated.
The BJP also pointed out that Toyyar Lake has been officially notified as a wetland by the BJP government itself, underscoring its commitment to conservation.
“Toyyar Lake is a notified wetland by the BJP Government, and we remain fully committed to protecting and safeguarding it,” the party said.
The party maintained that all statutory environmental safeguards are being followed and that there will be no encroachment or ecological damage to the lake or its surrounding areas due to the project.
Reiterating its stand, the BJP said the PM Unity Mall is being planned in a responsible and environmentally compliant manner and urged citizens not to be misled by what it termed as misinformation being spread about the project.
