SALVADOR DO MUNDO: The body of Akash Vishwakarma (31), a native of West Bengal, was recovered from the creek at Salvador do Mundo–Socorro on Thursday after an intensive search operation by rescue teams.
The incident took place at around 8:00 pm on Wednesday when Akash was riding a Jawa motorcycle across a small culvert. His motorcycle allegedly brushed against a Vespa scooter, causing him to lose balance and plunge into the creek along with the motorcycle.
Local residents immediately alerted the emergency services, following which personnel from the Fire and Emergency Services, Goa Police, and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) launched a search operation. The search continued until around 2:00 am before being suspended due to darkness.
The operation resumed on Thursday morning, with rescue teams intensifying efforts in and around the creek. After several hours of searching, Akash’s body was recovered from the water.
Further investigation into the circumstances leading to the accident is underway.
