PANAJI: Goa Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Saturday urged teachers to focus on developing key qualities such as communication, creativity, compassion and courage among students, saying these values will play an important role in shaping their future.
Addressing the 65th Teachers’ Day celebrations in Panaji, Sawant stressed that the role of teachers remains irreplaceable despite the growing use of technology in education.
“Technology can never replace a teacher. The way teachers teach and connect with students with care and affection is irreplaceable,” the Chief Minister said.
Sawant also urged aided schools to give special attention to the cleanliness and maintenance of girls’ and ladies’ toilets. He pointed out that the government provides grants for the maintenance of school buildings and toilets and called upon schools to ensure these facilities are properly maintained.
During the celebrations, the Chief Minister honoured nine teachers with the CM-Vashistha Guru Puraskar 2025-26, recognising their exemplary contribution and excellence in teaching.
The awardees are Eshwar Raghuvir Parab, Arati Ashok Kolambkar, Nitin D. Naik, Devendra B. Sathe, Prashant V. Tari, Gourish R. Vernekar, Narendra M. Naik, Mable Maria Perpetua Vaz e Da Costa and Umesh P. Naik.
The awards were presented as part of the government’s Teachers’ Day celebrations to acknowledge the contribution of educators towards the state’s education sector.
