CANACONA: In yet another incident, a policeman from Telangana State is forced to remove a ‘Police’ sticker from a private Car before allowing their journey into Goa.
While the strong police force was regulating the highway traffic flow at Monday’s fatal accident site at Maxem slope, a Telangana registration number (TSO6EW6129) coloured Car displaying a ‘Police’ sign board was ordered to stop.
When police were questioned in media presence, about the presence of the ‘Police’ signboard, the two front-seat occupants (including the driver) pointing out towards the rear seat said a policeman’ was present in the Car.
A man then came out from the rear seat and displayed his Police Identity of Telangana State, informed it’s not an offence to stick ‘Police’ on a private Car, and offered to remove the same, when the media confronted him that being a policeman he should be aware of Motor Vehicle Rules and regulations.
“It is not an offence in Telangana to mention ‘Police’ on private Cars, but we were unaware about Goa’, even as a media men stated Supreme Court has strictly banned the use of ‘Police’ name on private Cars., to which the Telangana policeman said he is not aware of it and went on to remove the signboard.
The other car occupants also pleaded that they were unaware of such motor vehicle rules in force and regretted the same, after which police allowed the Car to proceed.
The all-male occupant’s Car who had come on a holiday to Goa was then allowed to proceed with their journey.
Incidentally, questions were raised as to how the private Car displaying a ‘Police’ signboard crossed the Polem checkpost border, where given the Code of Conduct in force of Lok Sabha Polls strict police surveillance is in force. Interestingly, the Police Checkpost is also manned by Canacona police, and the same police stopped the Car, some 7 Kilometres from inside the State state’s border.
