PANAJI: Today, the Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) has demolished an illegal scrapyard at Mala.
The said scrapyard has been running without proper permits and licences for the last many years.
“Today, we have demolished the illegal scrapyard at Mala, which was run for many years. The property is private, but the scrapyard operating there is illegal,” said CCP inspector present at the site.
He said that the said illegal scrap is also a hindrance to the Patto-Mala bridge, which will be thrown open to the public soon.
The inspector said that the City of Corporation Panaji has stated that the Corporation shall initiate the demolition procedure immediately as per further directions in the Suo Motu Public Interest Litigation No. 1 of 2021.
The Corporation of Panaji recently demolished an illegal construction of the commercial showroom on the second floor of a building in a conservation zone opposite Captain of Ports. The CCP workers in the presence of CCP officials, revenue officials and police, carried out the task of demolishing the illegal structure.
The Supreme Court had ordered the demolition of this illegal structure as it is done in a conservation zone, violating municipal regulations.
