PANAJI: With waterlogging in the city being a annual trend during monsoons, the Corporation of the City of Panaji ( CCP) has decided to undertaking mapping of its drainage system to understand the sorry state of affairs.
The decision was taken during the ordinary council meeting held on Monday, that also resolved to replace all the streetlights, within its jurisdiction, under Smart city Mission.
Speaking to reporters post meeting, Mayor Rohit Monserratte said that the CCP, through Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) will undertake mapping of drains within its jurisdiction. He said CCP will work on improved drainage system before next monsoon.
“This is part of the long-term plan to find a permanent solution to the recurring flood issue,” he said.
Further, as rhe councilors raised issue pertaining the non-functioning streetlights, Mayor said that under Smart City Mission, Imagine Panaji will take up the project to replace all the poles, starting from next month. “Poles and lights will be immediately replaced at Ganesh Visarjan sites,” Monserratte said.
In yet another decision, CCP resolved to allocate one parking pass per resident of Panaji as a relaxation from pay parking. However, shopkeepers will not get this parking benefit.
CCP has also also issued an ultimatum to those traders at municipal markets to sign the new agreement or face eviction.
