PANAJI: The Union Health Ministry has reviewed Goa’s progress under the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, with a renewed focus on accelerating tuberculosis elimination through early detection, timely treatment and enhanced nutritional support for patients.
During the review, Smt. Punya Salila Srivastava, IAS, Secretary, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, assessed the implementation of key interventions in the state along with Shri Yetindra M. Maralkar, Secretary (Health), Government of Goa, and Dr. Manish Gaunekar, State TB Officer.
As part of the visit, Poshan Kits and food baskets were distributed to TB patients at the Government Hospital and Research Centre, Tuem, Pernem, reinforcing the nutritional support component of the national campaign. The initiative aims to improve treatment outcomes by providing patients with assistance beyond medical care.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said the fight against tuberculosis requires a whole-of-society approach, combining early diagnosis, uninterrupted treatment, nutritional support and community participation. He noted that while Goa has made encouraging progress, the government is committed to expanding outreach and ensuring that every TB patient receives comprehensive care and dignity throughout the recovery process.
He added that the state remains aligned with the national vision of achieving a TB-Mukt Bharat by strengthening healthcare interventions and community engagement across Goa.
