PANAJI: Chandan Caro and Akash Pal emerged triumphant in the Junior and Senior Open Singles categories at the 6th MSC Cup All India Invitational Table Tennis Tournament at Peddem. In Team championship events, Kolhapur Paddlers emerged winners in the Junior Team event, while Bengal Express walked away with the Seniors Team championship prizes and trophies. The much-anticipated annual MSC Cup was organised by Miramar Sports Club in collaboration with the Sports Authority of Goa and showcased the exceptional talent and competitive spirit of table tennis players from across Goa and outstation States.
In the Open Category (Juniors), the title match between the two rising talents from Goa, Chandan Caro and Atharv Dhulapkar, kept spectators on the edge of their seats. In a nail-biting encounter, Chandan Caro emerged victorious, defeating Atharv Dhulapkar with a score of 3-2. Both players exhibited remarkable skills and sportsmanship throughout the match, showcasing the immense potential of the upcoming Goan table tennis players.
The Open Category (Seniors) saw a dominant performance by the in-form India-ranked player Akash Pal, who triumphed over his Bengal colleague Aniket Sen in a commanding fashion, with a resounding score of 3-0. Akash Pal’s exceptional display of skill and precision left the audience in awe, solidifying his position as a formidable force in the senior category. Earlier this year, Akash defeated Commonwealth Gold medallist Sharath Kamal at the All India Ranking in January, and in the finals, he once again showed his potential as a formidable rising force.
The Junior Team Championship final was an enthralling contest between Kolhapur Paddlers and Dynamic Warriors (Goa). In an intense battle, Kolhapur Paddlers emerged victorious with a score of 3-1. The Senior Team Championship witnessed a dominant performance by Bengal Express, who claimed a resounding victory of 3-0 against Dynamic Warriors (Goa). The Bengal Express comprised top India-ranked players such as former National champion Arjun Ghosh, Aniket Sen, Akash Pal, and Abhimanyu.
Adarsh Toraskar, Sports promoter; Sandeep Heble, Secretary, Goa Badminton Association; and Miramar Sports Club officials Joel Andrade (President), Myron Pereira (Treasurer) and Noel Estibeiro (Vice President) graced the finals, among others.
