PANAJI: The opening day of the 2nd All Goa Major Ranking Table Tennis Tournament witnessed exciting contests and impressive performances as the race for titles gathered momentum at the Sports Complex, Ponda.
In the Girls Under 11 category, Anaya Shukla, Shaurya Dessai, Tvisha Kotkar and Vanlalhriapuii secured their places in the semi-finals after producing commanding displays in the quarter-final stage.
Anaya delivered a dominant performance to defeat Sanaz Shaikh in straight games with a 3-0 victory. Shaurya was pushed to the limit by Claire George before emerging with a hard fought 3-2 win. Tvisha also survived a close encounter, overcoming Tasha Mascarenhas by an identical 3-2 scoreline. Vanlalhriapuii completed the semi-final line-up with a convincing 3-0 triumph over Swara Gude.
Competition in the Girls Under 13 section also intensified as the Round of 16 produced several notable performances. Advancing to the quarter-finals were Sachi Desai, Vanlalhriapuii, Inara D’Souza, Shaurya Dessai, Lalruatsangi, Vanlalrinzuali, Anaya Shukla and Tisha Shaikh.
The tournament, organised by the Ponda Table Tennis Sports Club under the aegis of the Goa Table Tennis Association, was formally inaugurated by Virendra Dhavalikar, noted sports promoter Bhaskar Khandeparkar, club president Vishwanath Dalvi, councillor Shaunak Borkar and organising committee member Amogh Namshikar, alongside other dignitaries.
