CANACONA: A 65-year-old patient got stranded inside the Lift while he was being taken to the Male Ward situated on the 2nd floor of the Community Health Centre (CHC) late Tuesday night.
The trapped patient –Anand Komarpant, 65 was later rescued by Fire –Services personnel, who were requisitioned for the rescue operation after remaining inside for over half an hour.
According to CHC sources, the CHC Lift, which otherwise operates perfectly, through an old one, sometimes suddenly stops due to low voltage. The lift, however, can be brought down with the suitable usage of a Key, or a Generator has to be operated to restart the lift.
‘These two things were not followed by the staff present on the occasion, compelling the 65-year-old patient to stay inside for over half an hour, till the Fire Services were called and the patient was brought out of the lift.
According to another hospital source, a Servant who was taking the patient to the Male ward situated on the 2nd floor was also trapped along with the patient inside the lift, and both were rescued without much trouble.
It may be recalled that in the past residents have protested to repair the malfunctioning Lift which was neither of any usage to the patients, nor the staff, and most patients were made to walk from the ground floor to the upper floors. The first floor has a female ward, besides other important Units, while the third floor has a Male ward and other hospital units.
