PANAJI: Civil Supplies Minister Ravi Naik has warned that Inspectors failing in their duties will be suspended.
“Officials who do not check the rice quality would be suspended. Stock of rice would be sent back, new rice brought and supplied to the people. Officers who accept rice stocks without checking would be suspended, he promised. Possibly we need make a deeper investigation and find out who and why this rice reached Goa too. But as of now listen to the minister,” said Naik
After ration card holders were supplied rice infested with maggots, mites and fungus, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that civil supply officials should check the godowns (to check quality) and should not leave it on store keepers.
CM Pramod Sawant has asked Civil Supplies Dept officials to move out of their office and go on the field to inspect the grain stock.
“Don’t sit in the office and leave everything on the storekeeper,” advised Sawant. The directions from CM Sawant came on the backdrop of reports of maggot and worm infested grains being supplied to ration card holders. “The stock has been replaced,” informed Sawant.
Director Civil Supplies Gopal Parsekar said that it is true that some fair price shops have found spoiled rice, which will be replaced soon.
“We usually check the rice stored in the godowns, however the pictures of the supplied rice clearly show that it is spoiled and hence we will replace it,” he said.
