PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that he has urged the Union Finance Ministry to give respite in export tariffs on new iron ore and consider retaining the erstwhile tariff.
The central government on Saturday had announced that export tariffs on new iron ores and concentrates would be raised to 50 per cent from 30 per cent.
Also duties on pellets would be hiked to 45 per cent from zero.
“Goas ore largely being low grade (ie below 58%Fe), and not processed for steel making in the country, State of Goa has requested Ministry of Finance to consider ‘NIL’ export duty instead of 50% on the low grade iron ore exports, as was done since 2016,” said CM Sawant
He further said that this is necessary for sustainable mining in the State.
