PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has called for maintaining communal harmony in the wake of the controversy surrounding remarks against St. Francis Xavier, while confirming that an FIR has been registered against Gautam Khattar.
Addressing the issue, Sawant appealed to organisers of public events to exercise responsibility while inviting speakers from outside the state. He stressed that due diligence must be ensured so that no statements are made that could disturb Goa’s long-standing communal peace.
The Chief Minister stated that the police have already taken cognisance of the matter and registered a case following the controversial remarks. He assured that appropriate legal action will follow as per the law.
The incident has triggered widespread reactions across the state, with several political leaders and organisations condemning the remarks and demanding strict action.
Reiterating Goa’s tradition of unity and mutual respect among communities, Sawant urged citizens to remain calm and not allow such incidents to disrupt social harmony.
