PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has welcomed two major decisions of the Union Cabinet led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, describing them as significant steps towards strengthening governance and ensuring speedy justice.
Sawant welcomed the approval of the Viksit Bharat Initiative for Statistical Transformation, Analytics & Research (VISTAR), with an outlay of ₹4,371.10 crore for 2026–27 to 2030–31. He said the initiative will modernise India’s statistical ecosystem through real-time data, digital transformation, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.
The scheme’s three components, covering comprehensive statistical operations, strengthening State and UT statistical systems, and the 8th Economic Census, will improve data availability down to district, Gram Panchayat and ward levels, enabling more accurate and evidence-based policymaking.
He also welcomed the Union Cabinet’s decision to continue and expand Fast Track Special Courts (FTSCs) to 850 across the country to ensure speedy trials in rape cases and sexual offences against children.
Sawant said timely justice is crucial to protecting the dignity, safety and rights of women and children, supporting survivors and strengthening public confidence in the justice system.
