CANACONA: Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) thanked Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant and Arts & Culture Minister Govind Gaude for the wonderful gift of Ravindra Bhavan to Canconcars and particularly naming the Auditorium after Son-of-Canacona and Ex-Minister late Sanjay Bandekar.
In a hurriedly called press conference on Wednesday, CMC Chairperson Sara Naik Desai flanked by six of her Councilors including Vice-Chairperson Narcisco Fernandes stating that a Memorandum was submitted to the Arts & Culture Minister Govind Gaude and also to the Canacona MLA Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar after taking a resolution in the council meeting to name the Canacona Ravindra Bhavan after Ex-Sports and Art & Culture Minister late Sanjay Bandekar.
‘Bandekar besides being instrumental in acquiring the land on which now this Ravindra Bhavan is built was an artist himself, and did lots of services on the cultural platform of Canacona, and had also been the Arts & Culture minister himself.
Responding to our resolution and wishes of the Canconcar’s naming of the Auditorium after the late Sanjay Bandekar, the Chief Minister and Minister for Arts & Culture has shown their concern for the wishes of the people. ‘I on behalf of my Councillors and concerned people from the taluka, wish to convey my thanks and appreciation for accepting our plea today itself and Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant making an announcement to name the Auditorium after Sanjay Bandekar. We also thank Arts & Culture Minister Govind Gaude for favorably proposing the name of late Sanjay Bandekar in response to our request. Councilors Amita Pagi, Simon Rebello, Ramakant Naikgaunkar, Gandesh Madgaonkar and Laxuman Pagui were also present.
Incidentally, congress leader Janardhan Bhandari in a state informed that ‘the Auditorium of esteemed Ravindra Bhavan of Canacona is named after Shri Sanjay Bandekar due to the strong demand and representations of CMC’c Chairperson Sara Naik Desai, all Councillors, besides a representation also submitted to the Arts & Culture Minister Govind Gaude. Incidentally, in the presence of CMC Chairperson and some councilors Bhandari submitted a representation of Swabhimani Jagruth Canconcars to Gaude minutes before inauguration of the Ravindra Bhavan. Besides Bhandari, Sanju Naik (Shristhal), Pramod Phaldesai (Agonda) Bhushan Kholkar, and others were also present.
Meanwhile, reacting to a scribe demand during a meeting of the Chief Minister with the Government officers, Dr. Pramod Sawant assured to repair Saleri bridge (which has developed cracks to its Spans) on urgent basis. CM instructed PWD Officers to immediately inspect the bridge and submit a report on top priority for its immediate repairs, and also asked to submit a proposal to construct a new bridge on Saleri river.’ Chief Minister Dr. Sawant instructed to repair the bridge and place the completion report during his visit to Canacona on 1st December.
