MAPUSA: Mapusa Police have registered a case against a contractor and a site engineer for alleged negligence following the collapse of an under-construction gallery projection that left six labourers injured.
According to police, the incident occurred on July 19 at around 12.30 pm when the under-construction gallery projection collapsed at a construction site. The case was registered on July 23 at 7.21 pm based on a complaint filed by HC Vijay Gadekar of Mapusa Police Station.
Police have booked contractor Avub Ibrahim Inamdar of Pune, Maharashtra, who was responsible for executing the construction work, and site engineer Gunjesh Bharat Naik of Velguem, Valpoi, who was responsible for supervising the work and implementing safety measures.
The complaint alleges that both accused acted with gross negligence and failed to discharge their duty of care towards the labourers at the site, resulting in the collapse and injuries to six workers.
The injured have been identified as Durgesh Lalan Parasa (18), Mohammad Hossain Ali (26), Habibur Rehman (34), Nasim Ali (30), Binod Kumar Prasad (40), and Mohammad Rakiul Khan (35), all residents of M.A. Reality, Dangui Colony, Mapusa.
Police said five of the injured workers have been discharged after treatment at Goa Medical College (GMC), Bambolim, while Mohammad Rakiul Khan continues to undergo treatment.
The investigation is being carried out by PSI Bablo Parab of Mapusa Police Station.
