MAPUSA: The third person in relation to the Cunchelim land scam was taken into custody by Mapusa Police on, increasing the total number of arrests in the investigation to three.
Alongside Ramesh Rao, a Mapusa Municipal Council employee, and Shakil Sheikh, who were previously detained for allegedly participating in the fraudulent sale of government-acquired Comunidade land in Cunchelim, comes Ravi Chavan, the third accused.
After a number of people were tricked into buying Cunchelim Comunidade land plots, the scam was exposed.
On these sites, numerous gullible purchasers built homes, which the state government later removed due to illegal building.
Three more suspects connected to the crime are still being sought by police: Raju Mandrekar, Raja Anthony, and Nobert Serrao, who is allegedly a replacement lawyer for the Cunchelim Comunidade.
Efforts are being made to capture the three, who are still at large.
