PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today said that he will instruct Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) to look in the issues raised by Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Cuncolim Industrial Estate.
“Will instruct GPCB to look into issues raised by LoP Yuri Alemao in Cuncolim Industrial estate,” said CM Sawant speaking to media on the sidelines of a function.
LoP Yuri Alemao in a letter to the Chief Minister said that air and w ater pollution, illegalities & irregularities, encroachments in Agricultural Land by some Industrial Units in Cuncolim Industrial Estate have turned CIE into a “Curse” for Cuncolkars.
“Despite my repeated demands, Government Authorities have not acted against violators,” he added.
Alemao has also demanded a Joint Inspection by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant along with all concerned Officials immediately to put an end to the Menace & Health Hazard, failing which Government will be totally responsible for the Law and Order situation arising out of incompetence of the Government Authorities.
“The Cuncolim Industrial Estate is a ticking bomb which may explode any movement. Government must learn from the massive fire at Pilerne Industrial Estate and take pro-active steps to control illegalties which are main cause of accidents,” Yuri said.
Asserting he will never ever support any illegalities, the Opposition leader said he is of the firm opinion that all polluting units in the Cuncolim Industrial Estate should be shut down immediately and eco-friendly industries should be brought in.
