Indirectly, CM also hinted that another Medical college is in the offing in South Goa ( most likely private).
Interestingly, Health Minister Rane assured to appoint required specialized doctors on contractual/part-time basis at the earliest.
Hopefully, this means the hospital will get going soon unlike the Ponda SDH and the Chicalim SDH, which lacks staff and facilities.
Rane has also assured to re-commence the Emergency Room to provide basic treatment to Cardiac patients in CUCHC.
Besides, local MLA Nilesh Cabral informed that 10 bedded morgue facilities will be available at the centre besides a 24 hours pharmacy will remain open.
Also, Oxygen lines have been provided to all the hospital beds in the new building which is constructed by Goa State Infrastructure Corporation (GSIDC) at the cost of Rs.51 cores.

The announcement by the Goa Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant and Health Minister Vishwajit Rane that the 82-bedded upgraded Curchorem Health Centre will be converted to sub-district hospital was a great news for the people of South Goa, especially the peopel of Sanvordem, Curchorem, Sanguem, Quepem, Cuncolim and other surrounding areas.
The hospital in this locality was the need of the hour as the people in these areas suffered immensely due to no proper health care closeby.
Imagine a accident victim at Canacona being brought to Fatorda or Bambolim. Will the patient survive? And hence there was a need for another hospital somehwere around.
Of course there are health centre but they lacked facilities and as such the patients had to be shifted to either South District Hospital at Fatorda or the Goa Medical College at Bambolim, which are far away.
What is the icing on the cake was the CM also inaugurated the dialysis unit in the hospital.
The CM, speaking at the function, also acknowledged this saying lot of pressure is coming on the Goa Medical College (GMC) therefore another medical college is required in South Goa where more doctors can be produced to fulfill the medical needs of the people.

While all basic facilities have been provided it would be interesting to know whether the hospital would also have X-Ray and the CT scan or MRI facilities as otherwise the patients have to wait for months for appointment for the scans and another fortnight or month for the reports.
It would be a great New Year Gift to the Goans if the Ponda sub-district, Chicalim and South Goa district hospitals are also upgraded with scan and X-Ray facilities.
The current BJP government believes in development and we have seen that by means of widened roads, bridges and new offices etc.
However, development does not only mean infrastructure development – building highways, fancy bridges or airports. Development also, and more importantly, means Human Development. Quality Education and quality healthcare are two important pillars of human development.
It needs no reiteration that bridging the gap between the aspirations of the people and the ground reality requires a systematic approach, involving both private service providers and government institutions.
Yes, the Dr Pramod Sawant government and Vishwajit Rane are somewhat are interested in private participation in health sector, but finally the end result has to be Quality Healthcare for locals. Privatisation cannot be at the cost of locals.
For exmaple, several new plush premises have been built for health centres across state like Valpoi, Sanquelim, Tuem, Chicalim, Ponda, spending crores but these centres lack facilities.
Only constructing buildings would not siuffice, there is need of good doctors, nurses, technicians etc and not to forget the euqipments.
They say, Health is Wealth and whatever decision the government takes it has to be in the intrerest of Goa and Goans.
