PONDA: Curti Khandepar Panchayat has finally woken up from deep slumber after fifteen years as the locals found the PanchayatPanchayat putting up a compound and gate to teh Crematorium after years of requests.
The locals of Curti Khandepar Panchayat were surprised after they saw today panch members put compound, gate, and lock to its Crematorium entrance following free final rites performed on unknown bodies without paying fees to the PanchayatPanchayat for last fifteen years.
Following this many locals reacted by saying that Panchayat has woken up after fifteen years.
According to Sarpanch Gurudas Khedekar, the Panchayat acquired around 17000 square metres of land at Deep Nagar Curti fifteen years back to construct symmetry, Kabarastan, Crematorium for catholic, Muslim Hindus and other communities for final rites on bodies of mainly migrant.
However, for the past fifteen years, there were no facilities at the Crematorium nor proper records of final rites or receipts or revenues to PanchayatPanchayat. Due to lack of appropriate system and open access, the last rites were performed on bodies by unknowns people without a receipt to PanchayatPanchayat. Further outsiders misusing the Crematorium area for parking.
It was almost like a marketplace that anyone can visit.
With no proper receipts and records and missed many revenues, Curti Khandepar Panchayat today put gate and lock to its Crematorium.
He said this step was taken to generate revenue for PanchayatPanchayat.
When he checked, Sarpanch further said that he found PanchayatPanchayat has a record of receipts for performing final rites on just around 65 bodies for the past three years, “however when we inspected the burial site, we found 300 burial chambers. We don’t know how many bodies were cremated and how many were buried in the past fifteen years. Every three to four years, the burial chambers are cleared for the final rites of the new body.”
Panchayat charges Rs 2000 for the burial of the body. Panchayat suspects several bodies were disposed of off without any revenue to Panchayat due to open access.
But it now hopes this will stop from today after the system is in place.
Henceforth, those final performing rites on bodies will have to contact the first Panchayat for paying fees and then only the gate would be opened for last rites.
“We have displayed contact numbers of Panchayat secretary, Sarpanch, and also one person will be deputed to look after crematorium,” Sarpanch said.
Sarpanch further said that the Crematorium lacks basic facilities except for water connection, which the PanchayatPanchayat would provide in four months.
“At present, there is no shed for final rites on the bodies of Hindus.
Soon Panchayat would provide facilities for performing final rites, sheds, electricity and all facilities required for all religious people,” he added.
He said most migrants are using this Crematorium. He hoped that all measures would generate revenue for Panchayat.
