PANAJI: Goa Congress president Girish Chodankar has alleged that the BJP is afraid to face elections amid growing public anger over issues including alleged injustice, corruption, cash-for-jobs, drugs, unemployment and law-and-order concerns.
Chodankar claimed that the government had delayed or cancelled the Ponda by-election after realising that the BJP could face defeat. He alleged that the election had been discussed with the Election Commission before it was subsequently cancelled.
The Congress leader said the decision reflected the ruling party’s apprehension about facing voters and alleged that the BJP was aware of growing dissatisfaction among the people.
Chodankar maintained that the government should allow elections to be held at the appropriate time and face the electorate on issues affecting the people of Goa.
