PANAJI: In a significant research development highlighting the potential of Goa’s natural resources in advanced engineering applications, Gaurish Samant has successfully completed his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Goa University.
Samant pursued his doctoral research under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Rajesh Suresh Prabhu Gaonkar. His thesis, titled “Development, Characterisation and Statistical Analysis of Natural Fiber Reinforced Cashew Nut Shell Liquid Matrix Composite”, explores the development and evaluation of sustainable composite materials using locally available Goan cashew nut shell liquid and natural fibres.
The research examines the properties and performance of these composites, with a focus on their potential applications in lightweight ballistic protection systems, an area of growing importance in advanced defence technology.
The study highlights how agricultural resources, particularly cashew nut shell liquid, can be transformed into value-added engineering materials through scientific research and technological innovation.
By combining natural fibres with cashew nut shell liquid-based matrices, the research explores sustainable alternatives for developing advanced composites that could have applications in specialised engineering and defence sectors.
Samant’s achievement also underscores Goa’s potential to contribute to cutting-edge research by harnessing its locally available natural resources and promoting sustainable, research-driven innovation.
