PANAJI: Goa is likely to continue experiencing hot and humid weather until October 15, with maximum temperatures crossing 36°C and elevated humidity adding to the discomfort, according to India Meteorological Department (IMD) Goa Director-in-Charge N. P. Kulkarni.
Kulkarni said deficient rainfall during the retreating monsoon, coupled with an anticyclonic circulation and moisture already present in the atmosphere, has contributed to the prevailing weather conditions across Goa and the Konkan belt.
Panaji recorded a maximum temperature of 36.3°C in October, while temperatures across the region have remained above normal over the past few days. The combination of high temperatures and elevated relative humidity has made conditions particularly uncomfortable.
The IMD has issued a yellow warning for hot and humid weather for October 13, 14 and 15, urging people to take precautions against the heat. Kulkarni advised residents to stay hydrated, wear caps when outdoors and avoid venturing outside during the peak afternoon heat.
The weather conditions are expected to change from October 17, when light thundershowers are likely at isolated places across Goa’s three districts. Until then, hot, humid and predominantly dry conditions are forecast to persist.
The IMD has advised people to remain cautious during the warning period, particularly during the afternoon hours when temperatures are expected to remain high.
