CANACONA: After multiple cases were reported in Gaondongrim village and neighboring areas, two individuals residing in Palolem, Canacona municipality, have contracted the dengue virus. A total of 45 dengue patients have been identified in various parts of Gaondongrim village, following the initial case detected in Ziltawadi ward. The recent discovery of two dengue patients in Palolem indicates that the dengue virus has spread to the municipal areas of Canacona. This information was provided by a source at Canacona Community Health Centre (CHC).
The virus initially appeared in a migrant worker in Ziltawadi and has since spread to Satorlim, Karvem, Talem, Bhars, Badsarem, Indrawada, and Nanem wards of Gaondongrim village. Additionally, dengue cases have been reported in Khotigao, Loliem, and Khola areas among the total of 45 cases. It is suspected that there may be even more cases, as many patients are seeking treatment from private doctors, making it difficult to ascertain the exact number of dengue cases.
The health department, along with Canacona Health Workers, has conducted fogging and sprayed disinfectants in an attempt to contain the spread of dengue-carrying mosquitoes in other localities and minimize further damage. Canacona Health Officer Dr. Jose Tavares, Medical Officer Dr. Diwakarji Velip, and Sanitary Inspector Pranay Naik are actively implementing preventive measures.
In awareness campaigns, Dr. Tavares has encouraged people to take utmost care and precautions by ensuring that discarded water-carrying containers are suitably covered and closed. Dr. Diwakarji has informed that health workers are deployed in teams to inspect areas with new dengue cases and take urgent precautionary measures.
